Please Note: The current offices are different than the ones seen below because of amendments made to the constitution at the Spring Forum in 2016.


Duties of the President

  • to plan the annual convention, the SCJCL Spring Forum 

  • to preside at all meetings of the Executive Board and at the State Convention

  • to create the agenda for all Board meetings at least one week prior to said meetings

  • to appoint all committees and supervise their actions. The president will have the right to serve as an ex officio member of all committees

  • to see that all projects planned for the year are carried out with the cooperation of the Executive Board

  • to attend Nominations Committee, the Constitutional Amendment Committee, and Meet the Candidates at the National Convention, if in attendance at said Convention

  • to preside at all State Fellowships during the National Convention if in attendance at said Convention

  • to make a serious effort to attend the National Junior Classical League Convention (held in late July/early August) and designate a suitable proxy if unable to attend


Duties of the  First Vice President:

  • to plan the annual SCJCL Fall Workshop 

  • to preside at a meeting in the absence of the President ​​

  • to serve as a rescource for local JCL officers to contact concerning sutable programs for their clubs, including fundraising 

  • to promote the JCL to non-member schools and encourage them to join the JCL 

  • to encourage former chapters to rejoin JCL

  • to produce and distribute brochures, letters and/or other items about JCL for the purpose of attracting new chapters

  • to assist interested schools in becoming JCL chapters


Duties of the Second Vice President:

  • To preisde at a meeting in the absence of the President anf First Vice President 

  • To make a serious effort to attend the National Junior Classical League Convention (held in late July/early August) and designate a suitable proxy if unable to attend 

  • to manage the rules for the Spirit Competition at the State Convention

  • to organize spirit materials and lead the SCJCL delegation in Spirit during the General Assemblies of the National Convention if in attendance at said Convention 

  • to organize service projects for SCJCL events as a way for the SCJCL to give back to the wider community 

 

Duties of the Parliamentarian:

  • to receive papers of candidacy and to regulate all affairs concerning candidates for state office

  • to officiate on all matters of procedure according to the latest edition of Robert’s Rules of Order

  • to review the SCJCL Bylaws and propose amendments, subject to the approval of the SCJCL Executive Board

  • to review the SCJCL Constitution and propose amendments, subject to the approval of the SCJCL at the State Convention

  • to coordinate and preside over a meeting for candidates and constitutional amendments at the State Convention

  • to attend Nominations Committee, the Constitutional Amendment Committee, and Meet the Candidates at the National Convention if in attendance at said Convention

  • to coordinate and preside over a Voting Caucus to discuss national board candidates and constitutional amendments at the National Convention if in attendance at said Convention

  • to make a serious effort to attend the National Junior Classical League Convention (held in late July/early August) and designate a suitable proxy if unable to attend 


Duties of the Historian:

  • to update the SCJCL website and maintain the SCJCL media presence

  • to prepare the SCJCL Scrapbook, to be entered in national competition at the NJCL Convention

  • to send photos, fliers, and other relevant materials to the NJCL Historian with a brief explanation as to the goals of the SCJCL in archiving its activities

  • to make a serious effort to attend the National Junior Classical League Convention (held in late July/early August) and designate a suitable proxy if unable to attend

 

Duties of the Editor:

  • to edit the SCJCL Torch, the official publication of the SCJCL, three times during the academic year

  • to prepare and send SCJCL news articles to the Torch: US

  • to keep minutes of any officer meetings and the annual Spring Forum to be passed on to the succeeding secretary

  • to make a serious effort to attend the National Junior Classical League Convention (held in late July/early August) 

SCJCL Executive Board Candidate Pre-file 

Candidate's must give a speech, not to exceed 1:30 minutes, at General Assembly I. No campaigning of any sort is allowed prior to General Assembly I. Candidates must also attend the Candidates Open Forum to speak with delegates. Candidates are encouraged to also attend the Constitutional Amendments Committee Meeting and the Officers' Workshop. 2018-2019 officers will be announced at General Assembly II.
